I'm A Night Runner: Julie Haagenstad

Welcome to our "I'm a Night Runner" series where we feature real people and their running journeys. If you are interested in applying please email beachy@beachymedia.com.

  1. How long have you been a runner? I've been a runner for approximately 12 years.
  2. Why did you start running? I started running to get rid of the baby weight. It was also to get out of the house for an hour or so for some me time.
  3. What was your favorite race? My favorite race is the Bolder Boulder. Such a fun experience. Definitely do it for that, versus trying to get a PR.
  4. What time do you usually run? I'm up early, before the first light - alarm rings at 4:00. I'm up and out no later than 4:15-4:20. I have to get out then or I get too busy with day stuff.
  5. What's your favorite part of running in the dark? I like the darkness - the quietness of the night (or super early morning).  I like being out when I can be alone.
  6. Who is your running inspiration? My inspiration is Kara Goucher - I like that she's local-ish to me (I live about an hour or so from her).  She is very motivational and seems to be very down to earth.

  7. Give us a fun fact! Fun fact?  I'm relatively boring! I'm a Christmas baby.  I am a sci-fi geek, can quote most of the Star Wars movies.  Animals are drawn to me, never had one that didn't like me.  Even the growly ones
